In a back-and-forth exhibition showcasing passion and talent, Mexico faced Colombia in an international friendly at M&T Bank Stadium. Although labeled a friendly, the players and tens of thousands of fans in attendance created an atmosphere like no other. The match ended 1-1, but either nation could have walked away with a win.

As the players walked out and the national anthems began, flags waved throughout the stands, which were filled with Colombian and Mexican jerseys. The match kicked off in an aggressive fashion, and within just eight minutes, Richard Ríos danced around his defender, creating enough space to whip a right-footed cross onto the head of in-form striker Luis Suárez, who powered a header directly into the net. The players celebrated as the fans erupted following a textbook Colombian goal.

In the 30th minute, 17-year-old Mexican prodigy Gilberto Mora carried the ball from midfield through five Colombian players before releasing a through ball into the box. After a scramble in attack, the ball fell to Roberto Alvarado, who fired a volley that struck the post and landed at the feet of Luis Chávez, whose first-time shot hit the crossbar.

In the opening moments of the second half, Mexico had yet another opportunity to equalize as some excellent midfield combination play led to a through ball for Hirving Lozano, but he failed to convert the one-on-one opportunity.

In the 60th minute, Mora received a long ball, bringing it down near the edge of the box. With his second touch, he sent his defender to the ground before taking a few additional touches and firing a low-driven shot into the back of the net. The crowd erupted for their starboy, whose every touch throughout the match was met with an ovation due to the excitement surrounding the young midfielder.

With that goal, Mora became the youngest goalscorer in the history of the Mexican national team, breaking a record that had stood for 96 years since Manuel Rosas set it at the 1930 World Cup.

Just seconds before the final whistle, a confrontation broke out following a physical battle between midfielders Gustavo Puerta and Álvaro Fidalgo. Players crowded around one another, with some shoving while others attempted to hold their teammates back.

The match ended in a 1-1 draw, concluding what was an exciting display of heart, passion, and aggression from both nations.
